27 november 2000

Preface:

I received this letter earlier tonight. I didn't have much to do and ended up pissing away a perfectly good evening on responding to it. Looking at it, i realize that i was disproportionately rough on the guy. I apologize. Thus, i have changed his name.

It's not as though i care about what this guy has to say, but i found myself letting my angst regarding his Jarheadian brethren and their undying belief that their paranoia is patriotism. Hence, my response was far and away more than the guy deserved.

I read with interest your web site about Alex Jones and I may be wrong but I would guess you probably don't know Alex. I mean you probably literally have only spoken with him a few times, even though you write like you are an Alex Jones expert. I have known Alex since he was born, he's sometimes weird and quirky but he's also intelligent and articulate. You act like local access cable, radio and television are supposed to be "serious journalism" ?  It's local entertainment, right up there with the farm report. Get real, maybe you've been in Austin too long. Alex may be kooky but he's not dangerous and he obviously has an appeal.  You call him an uneducated, angry white male..why don't you read your web site with some measure of objectivity, I'd say you are pretty angry and I'd guess you are a white male. I don't know who you are and I've never seen your show but your web site say's that you have that air of democratic, liberal, better educated than the masses, ("I'm working on my Masters") elitism found in most university towns that most of America finds obnoxious. By the way, why don't you include some pictures on your web site, it's boring.

Jim-Bob Jones

Well Jim-Bob,

Let's start with your knowledge of Alex. I mean, I think it's pretty clear you have a good grasp on the "run-on", so let's move on to your other biggest thought. You say he's a good guy and frankly, I'm glad to hear it. No, I'm not being sarcastic either; the guy needs friends. He needs people who support him to let him know when he's gone too far. Is he intelligent and articulate? Maybe in his personal life, but certainly not when on the radio, television or at the studio. I've watched him lapse into incoherency year after year... and year after year, the delusions become more vivid, his screams become louder and more frequent.Whatever feeble grasp the guy might have had on reality has become a thing of the past.

You made the comment, "You act like local access cable, radio and television are supposed to be "serious journalism"?" No. Heck, I've been doing access for the better part of 10 years, which is MUCH longer than Mister Jones has been doing it, I might add. If i can make people laugh, great. If i get them to think, then I've brought some good into the world. But i never take myself too seriously despite the reality that I've spoken to people who are now dead, people who lived their life in abuse, neglect or abandon. I keep doing my show despite the anger and hatred of every ignorant, uneducated white male who calls to tear me down to their level. No I wasn't talking about you specifically, why do you ask? Anyway, I keep doing my show despite my own arguments that I should just give up and let the Uber Konservative Paranoid Right run their half baked, never researched ideas across the mass of human cattle who eat it up while giving the claim that "FEMA has concentration camps" the same glazed dopey look as if they were looking at a fast food chain commercial.

But I keep going back for more.

Back to your original point, do I think Jones is supposed to be taken as serious journalism? Regardless of how he would answer that question, i have to say "No." But when someone sits in front of the camera and swears that the United States Marines have taken some town in North Carolina and is holding it under Martial Law... that is, that the men and women of our Armed Forces have turned against their own, when he starts screaming that FEMA is running concentration camps to divide the American populace, when Jeff Davis starts telling everyone to take to the streets with firearms because his son got busted by the police... those are points when I raise my voice to question the "wisdom" and sincerity of these people. In particular, i question Jones' sincerity since he's unemployed (to the best of my knowledge) and since he obviously wants... needs people to unquestionably believe his crackpot, unproven theories (if you don't believe me, try to find an episode of his where he doesn't coach people to visit infowars.com and buy his "documentaries"). I question their accountability, their methodology and their accuracy. The question you should be asking yourself, Mr. Jones, is; Why aren't you questioning them?

But if you consider advocacy that the Military and the government of this country banning constitutional rights (without evidence, of course), and you hear someone advocating violent revolution (at least a thinly velied version of one), and you hear someone (Jones) parade his false ideology and paranoia about as politically valid, and you still consider that to be "... local entertainment, right up there with the farm report. " then you are one greviously flawed individual. I mean, the guy goes to San Francisco with his monkey just so he can watch a bunch of men at night perform some morality play and he brings it back and calls it journalism. But i do admit, that was entertaining, watching him schmooze with all those manly men. It was much more entertaining than any farm report that i've seen.

Let it also be noted that I do not always disagree with Jones or his ilk. I will almost always disagree with their methodology, however.

Oh, I was wondering about something; when was the last time you saw one of Jones' episodes? Either the ones on the air, or the other ones?

The fact that you can sit there and see the Mc Carthyist tactics of this guy, that he's attempting to turn people against their police, against their military, against their government... and for what? FOR WHAT? So he can sell more of his "documentaries"? If there were any sincerity to Jones, he'd be more like Michael Moore or Ralph Nader, who viciously and tirelessly try to make corporations accountable for the crimes they commit against America and the world (believe it or not, there's more to the world than the United States and Mexico). So make no mistake about it. This guy is dangerous in the way screaming "FIRE" in a moviehouse is dangerous. He is a lightening rod to those who aren't able to think for themselves, he attracts those disenfranchised, angry white males who think they're victims (blame the Meskins, blame the fags, blame the Catholics, blame the Jews, blame the liberals, but who won't get off their lazy asses to change their situation). And before the year 2000, he claimed the black helicopters would descend upon us all to whisk us away to the FEMA Concentration Camps (or whomever was running the concentration camps back then). In case you didn't notice, it didn't happen. But people like this have a way of making self fulfilling prophecies. People like Jones are most dangerous when no one pays attention to them and hopefully I'm wrong, but it doesn't take me much to visualize someone killing others to get attention or to fulfill their prophecies.

When will these anti intellictual white trash understand that paranoia does not equivocate patriotism?

Let's play your little effort to be a "profiler" here, by the way.

"You have that air of democratic, liberal, better educated than the masses (I'm working on my Masters) elitism found in most university towns that most of America finds obnoxious."

Let's go down the list:

1) democratic. Guilty. I still believe in democratic principles. I'll bet you would look pretty good with a brown shirt and a black strap, Mr. Jones. Wait, just kidding. I'm guessing you would fit in Afghanistan, though. Too bad you weren't in China during the revolution; they hated intellectualls too, yaknow.

2) liberal. Guilty as charged. LBJ is one of my biggest hero's and much of my political thought is modeled after his achievements. I believe government exists only to do for the people what they cannot do alone. I also believe that the ultimate liberating force in the world is truth itself. I don't pretend to know the truth at all time nor in all things, but by questioning as much as i can, that is, by being a good liberal, I'm better at it than some repressed backwater hick with a scattergun and some cheap beer; or some piece of white trash who's trying to tear me down for their own edification. I mean, let's be honest, you didn't write me because you were interested in any kind of dialogue.

3) "better educated than the masses." Shucks. Guilty again. See, among other things, I've mastered the concept of the PARAGRAPH. I guess I have this drive to continually grow in my knowledge and in my experience of the world.I'm also pretty sure that my goal in life isn't to just be another high school educated piece of white trash who sits around with all his male buddies to watch cars drive in circles (NASCAR), or a bunch of men hold and grab each other while they play "smear the queer" (American football). I guess I'm just not content to be ignorant, nor ignorant enough to be content.

Oh, the last i heard, the average reading ability of the American was that of a 10th grader. I'm thinking most 10th graders have mastered the concept of the paragraph and know how to identify a run-on.

4) "...elitism found in most university towns that most of America finds obnoxious." Personally, i am impressed that you somehow magically know what most of America thinks, Mr. Jones. This magical, mystikal wonderful gift might be put to the tremendous use for which it was intended. Namely, if you could tell us all where Slobadan Milosovich (sp?) is, and how to best bring him to justice, it would be appreciated. If you could also take the time to tell us how to best go about releasing Prisioners of Conscious in places like China, Iran, Peru or at the very least, let us know how to go about ending the sham known as the "War on Drugs" and freeing those who are being held without parole for the simple act of smoking a plant? Maybe if you could bring those in our government to justice for supporting the Shah and his repressive regieme in Iran, or maybe those who were responsible for the Death Squads in Central America who killed peasants, nuns and priests alike. I know this is a lot to ask, but since you took a good hour or two to write that lovely collection of run-ons, i figure the least you could do would be to spend a sunday afternoon doing something revolutionary for humanity. Or maybe you can just watch more access television and believe that FEMA has concentration camps.

Oh, my opinion on the subject? Let's assume you're right. If so, it's a perceived obnoxiousness based on envy and envy only. If it's your dream to grow up to be some reactionist luddite or plebian, that's fine, but please do not take it upon yourself to criticize those who have ambition to be more educated than your average ball peen hammer.

"By the way, why don't you include some pictures on your web site, it's boring."

Hmmm, well HELLOOOO... Sailor! Why didn't you just admit that you were more interested in pictures instead of those boring old, dull words? By your own logic, you only read books with pictures in them. Blueboy maybe? NASCAR magazines? Maybe a few lovely shots of some guys with mustaches and "daisy dukes" to keep you feeling warm and excited tonight? I do have to admit, it hardly surprises me at all to see that you want more pictures and less words. But it does clarify something for me: you, Mister Jones, are either insincere or an outright liar (or perhaps both). You claim that my web site is boring, but you take the time to write me?

No matter. Skippy the Twink is here to help you out.

So, which is it? Are you a liar or just insincere?

Okay. MY turn to play profiler.

You're white, though you don't know your ancestory. You're just white and you wouldn't know if you're slavic white, anglican white or Latin white. But that's okay. You're white and right.

Male, divorced at least once, or about to be. Kids: probably.

Education: above high school, but probably not ambitious enough to get your Masters. You might have earned your Bachelors degree, but you might have quit before graduating, saying to yourself that "I'm too smart for school." If you did finish, you probably have a background in some area that advocates social retardation. Of course, I'm talking about electronics or computers here. Even if I'm wrong, you're working with electronics and or computers now.

You watch mainstream news.

You go on about how much you hate Bill Clinton, but you have no problem sleeping at night knowing that Ronald Reagan and George Bush encouraged Death Squads in Central America to kill every man, woman and child that they could put a bullet into.

You enjoy that time of year when men wearing tight pants hold each other in a circle and chase and play with each other. You root for the Cowboys.

You're still in Texas. You don't like to go beyond the borders unless you have to. You live in the suburbs and you probably live or work in or near a city like Dallas, where conformidity is prized. You might live in Plano, but it is doubtful that you can live in Garland.

How did I do, Jim-Bob ?

Oh, I was wondering... when was the last time you did anything for your community? When was the last time you gave blood? When was the last time you gave a donation to help bring aid to Albanians being hunted and persecuted in Serbia? When was the last time you cut a check for a family that you didn't know, because you knew they weren't going to have enough to eat at Christmas? When was the last time you gave solice to a stranger because they were lonely? Because they were confused? Because their family had judged them unfit to be a human because they loved someone of the same sex? When was the last time you did anything, Mr. Jones? I'm not saying that I've been all of those things, by the way. I am saying that i've been most of those things and a few others. I'm saying that you can sit there in your little ivory tower and shout at me all you want, but for all the good it does, you might as well scream at the ocean to turn back the tide. I've seen anti-intellectuals like you try to tear down people like me for as long as I've been alive. Whether you and your ilk are called "Mc Carthyist's" or "Red Guard", "The Moral Majority", "Taliban" or "The Christian Colalition", the reality is that I'm here trying to make a difference in the best ways i know how. And you... you sit in your ivory tower of anti intellectualism and cast stones at me because you don't like the fact that i point out that Jones is incapable of distingushing fantasy from reality and is to be questioned and discredited for each of his lies?

It must be nice to be you.

FEMA and their "Camps"

www.abovetopsecret.com Oh, scarry! they make reference to the "Shadow Government" that no one has been able to prove yet. But hey! Don't let facts, or the lack thereof, get in the way of a good story!

www.posse-comitatus.com I was actually interested in what this page, especially the quoted Bill, had to say until i saw the Crucifix in the emblem of a sherriff's badge. If i wanted to see propaganda of right wing religous zealots, I'd go check out something from the Ku Klux Klan or the Christian Coalition, neither group is Christian, by the way. It's just an excuse they use for their terrorist activities.

Yet more scripture and guns. As per the status quo, none of these groups have been able to produce a picture of the FEMA emblem on these facilities. I wonder why that is? I wonder why no one has ever caught a pink elephant either.

Paranoia as Patriotism

paranoia as patriotism Be sure to notice that our book burning, crucifix wielding friends, the posse comitatus, are on this list.

some thoughts on who we were and who we might be again. Remember, all non whites go to the end of the bus ! The Radical Right often refer to this era as, "The good old days."

Yes, convincing people that the government is hunting down, incarcerating, holding its own citizens under martial law (with no proof, of course), and trying to install fear, hate, ignorance and paranoia just for the sake of selling some 3rd rate documentaries is indeed some seriously funny stuff.

Let me clarify what was written... i said it was a paraphrase. If i had the means for going back and extracting the quote word for word, there would be a slight change in the words used, but no change in the meaning of those words. As for the "angry white male" comment, i guess i do have a grudge against every ignorant white male who thinks they're some sort of victim who deserves special treatment. But not to worry, i hold that grudge against anyone who thinks they're some sort of victim; who in reality is just too damned lazy to think and do for themselves. Please become more familiar with the concept of the word "paraphrase" in the future.

As for your rhetorical comment of, "Isn't that what Jones did with the 60 Minutes footage?" Let me think.... ummm... no. No it isn't. Here's the difference: Jones altered the footage for his own means without humorous quality, without disclaimer and with no regard for crediting the originators of the piece. If you'll notice, i tried to let Mr. Jones maintain some face after that incident. He chose to embarrass himself instead.

Oh... and consider this an open challenge to you that somehow i have radical ideas that qualify me as being "on the fringe". I mean it, if you're going to compare me to a half baked, uneducated, ludicrous spoiled brat with an agenda of getting rich off of peoples paranoia, then you're going to have to back it up. Seriously... if you're going to accuse me of being some sort of radical, then you need to be able to back it up. I will be waiting for solid, unquestionable and irrefutable evidence that i am. For the record, i own a rusty .22 rifle and a slightly unoiled 20 gauge along with a compound bow that i've not shot since college. The last i saw, radicals usually had a plethora of firearms, pipebomb making materials, racial literature (like the Turner Diaries), and they all seem to have this magical co-incidence that miraculously, all of their enemies just so happen to be the same enemies of God Himself. If it's any concern of yours, i hold no such belief

> Also, your inability to capitalize the pronoun "i" in

Okay. I'm going to give you a point on that one... academically speaking. Let me ask you something though, has it ever occurred to you that it is somewhat arrogant to refer to others as "you" and "they" and to yourself as "I" ? In other words, has it ever occurred to you that the diminutive case of the 2nd and 3rd persons seems subservient to the capitalized, and thus, more formal case, of the first person? In Spanish, they use "Usted", in German, "Sie" for formal addressing of others, but in English, we call to others by saying "you" while addressing ourselves as "I". Personally i thought it was an arrogant and condescending thing. Hence, i refer to myself with the same dignity and humility that i address others as.

It is a personal decision only, and not one i try to inflict upon others.

Funny thing about your note, Mr. Simpson, at no point have you offered any evidence to refute or bring into question, any of the things i've posted about Mr. Jones. You've also failed to address me in a way that merits a rational discussion about the matter and more than anything, you have attempted to bring me down to your level by spitting barbs and insults at me. And ironically... IRONICALLY, i've yet to insult you even once, or call you a name.

Okay. I hate to say it again, but i will "I will be waiting for solid, unquestionable and irrefutable evidence that i am (a radical). I am posting your letter and my response on my site tonight and i'll be giving you 48 hours for you to submit your proof.

Oh, Homer/Bob, i do have a question for you... how much have you done for the community? Admittedly, i've not done much; only about 6 years of talking to strangers about whatever ails them. Loneliness, isolation, confusion, the pain of abandonment, betrayal, or just how to meet someone who isn't a shallow, uneducated, beer swilling jerk who thinks NASCAR is the pinnacle of western civilization. I admit, it isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but at least it was something.

take care,
shelly

p.s. Oh, Bob for what it's worth, i think Jones is pretty funny too. Especially when his eyes bug out of his head because he's getting off on talking about how some girl spanked her coochie with a crucifix (apparently a scene in The Exorcist remake) and how Texas A&M is doing genetic splicing with spiders and cows but wouldn't let him see the "spidercow" (quote from his show, two monday nights ago). Heck Bob, you just can't buy that kind of entertainment from the finest of cokeheads and or crackpots ANYWHERE.

UPDATE:
48 hours have passed. Mr. Simpson has not responded as i was hoping he would. Of course, all this really means is he's a little hack who wants to toss stones from his ivory tower, but is too chickenshit to stand and deliver when called upon. How typical of his Jonesian ilk.

4 june 2001

I received this note from a guy calling himself Sean at a nearly defunct Hotmail account. Here's what he had to say.

As usual, my text is green and the correspondant's is white.

He asked:

I forgot to ask you if you’re still jelious of Alex Jones. I’m not saying you are but other people who read your stuff would say you are, in fact, jelious of him.

--
Ciao (Yes, he actually said, "Ciao")

Dear Sean,

I'm not nearly as "jelious" of Alex as you probably are that i've mastered the basic skills of using BOTH a dictionary AND a spell checker. Thanks for playing though.

When i decide to be an unemployed, uneducated tiddybaby whose greatest claim to fame is acting like a strung out paranoid schizophrenic with a coke habit and is totally and wholly incapable of distinguishing fantasies from reality. i'll let you know. Meanwhile, i think i'll just keep my dignity, honor and integrity.

-shelly.

p.s. go fuck yourself !! =)
